Business Groups Push Back On Unemployment Tax Hike

Business groups in Indiana are questioning the wisdom of raising the state’s unemployment tax.

Brian Burton with the Indiana Manufacturers Association says the money being eyed to bulk up the state’s unemployment trust fund could be better spent by businesses who want to create jobs.

Burton says he’s not sure about a plan from Indiana’s governor to raise the unemployment tax in the state by 17 percent.

Supporters say Indiana needs to double its unemployment trust fund, and the tax hike is the best way to make that happen.
